Who I am is very much dependent on where I am. Place, for me, is more than a location; it is a locution. I carry with me a sliver of everywhere I have ever been, some places more than others (see tattoos). Place is also temporal, intangible, a “time” of life as well as an eco-habitat. In both regards, I feel well-placed. I am a true child of the West and am happy to be back in that playground. Also, I am, at 33, very aware of my own agency in determining who I want to be and becoming that person…a wisdom more deeply ingrained with age. So…as much as I fear losing my body to the ravages of time, I welcome subjecting my mind to them.

I am an extremely social person, but function best when that is balanced with personal down-time. Outdoor excursions that take me out of cell phone range for a few days and that involve vistas also help me focus and prioritize. “In town” I am consumed by all the shiny baubles that adorn our day to day existence–the internet, the phone, my refrigerator, and, whenever the Sci-Fi channel gives up the goods–Battlestar Galactica. I am compelled by politics and still harbor the foolish and idealistic belief that individuals, working collectively, have the power to transform injustices.
